Little Knitted Mitten Tree Ornaments

These cute little mittens are a fun way to decorate your tree or attach to gifts! Also uses up yarn scraps too! This is the first time I have ever made an actual pair of mittens, because I lost interest after knitting one mitten for human size! These little guys are so quick and easy to make! Miniature mittens measure approximately 
2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches.

Basic knitting skill required!

~Size 2 double pointed needles
~4-ply yarn~ various colors of your choice


Cast on 20 stitches.
Row 1~ Knit 1, purl 1 across row
Rows 2 through 4 repeat row 1
Row 5~ Purl across row
Row 6~ Knit 9, increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches, knit 9
Row 7~ Purl across row
Row 8~ Knit 10, increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches, 
knit 10
Row 9~ Purl across row

Row 10~ Knit 11, increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches, 
knit 11
Row 11~ Purl across row
Row 12~ Knit 12, increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches,knit 2, turn (you are turning in the middle of the row) bind off 8 stitches (thumb), purl 10 stitches
Row 13~ Knit across row
Row 14~ Purl across row
Row 15~ Knit Across (if you want to add stripes do so in rows 15-20.)
Row 16~ Purl across row
Row 17~ Knit across row    
Row 18~Purl across row
Row 19~ Knit across row
Row 20~ Purl across row
Row 21~ Knit 2 together, knit 7, knit 2 together, knit 7, knit 2 together
Row 22~ Purl across row
Row 23~ Knit 2 together, knit 6, knit 2 together, knit 5, knit 2 together
Row 24~ Purl across row

Cut off yarn and pull through remaining stitches to form top of mitten.  
Sew side seam. 

Attach small piece of yarn or ribbon to tie both mittens together.
